Life Post on the Moon and Mars

The moon does not have any liquid water because of the extreme temperatures. Any liquid water exposed to sunlight on the moon evaporates instantly and escapes into space. Any water left in the shadows of craters are turned into ice. This leaves us with no liquid water left. The moon has a magnetic field but a weak one. The moon does not have an oxygen atmosphere because the magnetic field of the Moon is weak. There is no possibility that there can be life, because the moon does not have any atmosphere capable of containing life and the key elements of life to do this.

Mars is a terrestrial planet located 227,883,110.4 km away from the sun. Its located between Earth and the asteroid belt. Mars, is rumored to have life. Scientists also believed that Mars might have life, because it is believed that millions of years ago, liquid water was on the planet. Scientists believe there might be liquid water today, and with that, they suspect that there might be life on Mars. I think there might not be life on Mars, because Mars does not have enough liquid water to sustain life, and Mars has a thin layer of oxygen which cannot support it. I think Mars might also not have life, because it does not have enough elements to begin the building blocks of life.

Earth and the moon

Space is measured in Kilometers (Km), Astronomical Units (AU), and Light Years (Ly). The difference between these three types of measurements is that a kilometer is one thousand meters. An astronomical unit is 150 million kilometers. A light year is 9,461,000,000,000. We use kilometers and astronomical units to measure the distance between stars and planets in a solar system. We use light years to measure the distance between galaxies and other galaxies.

The Moon is 384,403 kilometers away from the Earth. It would take 14 hours to get to the moon.

The body formation of the Moon

The Moon was formed by a protoplanet the size of Mars crashing into the Earth. After the impact, gas and dust surrounded the Earth. The Earth gathered some of the debris and it got bigger. Most of the debris gathered together to form the Moon. The Earths gravitational pull pulled the Moon so that the Moon orbits the Earth.

Why Pluto is not a planet

In order for a body to be a planet It has to meet three requirements, 1. it has to orbit a star. 2. it has to have a gravitational pull to control the bodies in its neighborhood. 3. It has to be spherical. Pluto, a dwarf planet is not considered a planet because, it does not have a gravitational pull to control the bodies in the planets neighborhood. Although, it meets the other requirements, it is still not a planet because of this requirement. Another example of a body that is not a planet, is the Moon. The moon is not a planet, because it does not have a gravitational pull to control the bodies in the neighborhood. Also the Moon, does not orbit a star, which makes the Moon, a moon, which means the Moon is not a planet.

The diameter of the Moon is 3,474.8 Km. The diameter of the Earth is 12,742 Km. 48 Moons can fit into the Earth.

Astronomy Trip to AMNH

Our class visited the Museum of Natural History on the 26th of October, 2009. We went to the Rose Center first where we saw the Big Bang movie, and we learned that the universe was much denser then it is today. We also learned that when the Bing Bang happened it was full of cosmic energy that then exploded into big chunks of matter that then created the planets and the sun. We then looked at a big timeline explaining the events from the Big Bang to the present day.

After that we looked at the Hall of Meteorites, where we looked at meteors and we learned facts about them. We learned what was the difference between a meteor and a meteorite. We also learned about different kinds of meteorites that have been found in the museum. One of these meteorites was called the Ahnighito. It was found in Greenland and it was named after where it landed. It wieghs in incredible 34 tons and the posts that hold up the meteorite go all the way down to the bedrock. After that we went to the theater to watch a movie called the Journey to the Stars. We learned about brown dwarfs and about the sun. After that, we went home.

The questions I have is, what or who created the Big Bang? My other question I have is, is it possible to destroy the universe?
